Installation Guide

A step-by-step guide to installing your Tuskara wallcovering

Tuskara wallcoverings are premium tactile materials that deserve careful handling. Follow these steps for a flawless result. We always recommend working with a professional installer experienced in high-end wallcoverings.

What you need

Wallpaper paste (heavy-duty, suitable for non-woven/textile wallcoverings), a paint roller or wide brush, a plumb line or laser level, a smoothing brush or felt roller, a sharp utility knife with spare blades, a metal ruler, a clean damp sponge, and a clean flat surface for unrolling.

Step 1 — Inspect and prepare

Unroll all panels on a clean, flat surface. Check each panel for any transport damage and verify that the panel numbers printed at the top run in the correct sequence. Familiarise yourself with the design so you have a clear picture of the final result before you begin.

Step 2 — Prepare the wall

The wall must be completely smooth, dry, and structurally sound. Fill any holes, cracks, or uneven areas and sand them flush. Remove any old wallpaper residue entirely. The surface should be a uniform, light colour. If the wall shows colour variation, apply a coat of primer or light paint first. Colour differences underneath can show through, particularly with lighter or more translucent materials such as Silk and Grasscloth.

Step 3 — Mark your starting line

Using a plumb line or laser level, mark a precise vertical line on the wall where the first panel will be placed. This reference line is essential. Even a small deviation at the start will compound across subsequent panels, so take the time to get this right.

Step 4 — Apply paste to the wall

Apply paste evenly to the wall using a roller or wide brush. Cover only the area for the current panel, extending a few centimetres beyond the panel width. Do not apply paste to the wallcovering itself. Ensure full, even coverage without dry spots or excess pooling.

Step 5 — Place the first panel

Align the first panel carefully with your vertical reference line, starting from the top and leaving a small overlap at the ceiling for trimming. Press the panel gently against the wall and smooth it from the centre outward using a smoothing brush or felt roller. Work out any air pockets as you go. Do not use excessive force, especially on textured materials.

Step 6 — Continue with the following panels

Apply each subsequent panel in the numbered sequence. Panels must be placed edge to edge, not overlapping. Align the design carefully at each seam. Take your time matching the edges. Clean any paste that seeps onto the surface immediately with a lightly dampened sponge. Do not rub.

Step 7 — Trim and finish

Using a sharp blade and a metal ruler, trim the excess material at the ceiling, floor, and sides. Change blades frequently to ensure clean cuts, as a dull blade can tear or fray premium materials. Wipe down all seams one final time with a clean, barely damp sponge.

Step 8 — Allow to dry

Let the wallcovering dry undisturbed for at least 24 hours. Avoid direct airflow from open windows or heating during this period. The final appearance, including colour depth and texture, will fully settle once the paste has dried completely.

Important notes

All Tuskara wallcoverings are made to order and produced to your exact specifications. Returns are not possible after production. Always order a sample first to assess the material, colour, and texture in your specific lighting conditions.
